Pick-UpandDrop-OffProcedures

map

Student pick-up and drop-off are two very busy times of day at John Adams! In order to keep all families safe (and to limit frustration), please follow these procedures from 8:00-8:45 and 2:30-until all buses are gone.

Doors open at 8:20 a.m. Students will wait outside until 8:20 a.m.

  • Door 1 – Grade 6

  • Door 2 – Grade 7

  • Door 9 – Grade 8

Students then enter the building and go to their classrooms. The main circle/turn around near the main entrance is reserved for buses ONLY before/after school.

If you drive your child to John Adams, refer to the diagram (above) to understand expected traffic patterns. Cars entering/dropping off students should enter the parking lot on the east side of the building in the entrance only and let students out at the curb side of the parking lot next to the building. At the end of day, buses will utilize the curb area on 31st Street all the way to the stop sign on 18th Ave. Handicap parking is available in the front of the John Adams parking lot.

After school, please be aware that other cars are arriving and leaving behind you. Good drop off and pick up areas are marked with a star on the map.

CAUTION. We work diligently to get all students to use the crosswalk. Unfortunately this does not always happen. Be alert to students who may be crossing outside of crosswalks!

Message about Mayo/JM Home Football Games

Welcome back! As we prepare for the upcoming football season we wanted to communicate on a few items to our middle school students attending the games this year. If you would provide this information to your families this would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Students will need to enter through the main gate and must be with their parent/guardian.

  2. No footballs or balls allowed in the stadium.

  3. No backpacks allowed in the stadium.

  4. At Mayo, there will be bleacher seating in the south end zone or welcome to sit with the student section. Expectation is to sit and watch the game cheering on the Spartans!

The south end zone will have a new look this year providing more seating opportunities for our middle school students. They will have the opportunity to line up and high five our players as they come to the tunnel.

  5. At JM, there will be middle school seating in the upper right corner of the grand stand.

This year we have been putting more safety measures in place including reducing congestion around concessions. Individuals loitering in this area may be encouraged to find seating options in our bleacher areas. Individuals will not be loitering outside of front gates.

Message from Our Principal

John Adams principal standing outside the front building.
  • If students choose to bring a cell phone/device to school, the device(s) will remain in student lockers during the full school day, including lunch/recess. Smart watches may be worn for telling time only.

  • Student backpacks will remain in student lockers during the full school day, including lunch/recess. Students will only bring class related items to each class period of the day.

  • Mr. Goetz will communicate with parents via the JA Cub Report. All updates will be communicated and generated through this emailed newsletter. Stay tuned.

  • Students will need to have their photo taken and get their student ID. This will be done Monday, September 8. If you do not receive a flyer in the mail for photo purchase, there will be forms available at John Adams.

  • John Adams has a wonderful support staff including three guidance counselors, two social workers, two success coaches, special education services, and mental health practitioner.

  • We are a PBIS School which stands for Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports. We utilize the following three main expectations in all areas of our day: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe. These expectations are laid out for each area of the building and posted. We use these expectations as our basis for rewarding students and teaching appropriate school behavior.

  • How early can I get in the school? The entry and school building doors will open at 8:20 am. Students will not be allowed to wait in the entry way. Please plan your arrival time accordingly. Entry to the building will be based on locker location to reduce congestion:

  • Grade 6: Door 1

  • Grade 7: Door 2

  • Grade 8: Door 9

  • Communication - We use Skyward Skylert messaging service to send you important information. These messages are sent via email, telephone and text depending on the methods you chose. If you do not answer, the service will leave you a message. We ask that you please listen to your messages rather than calling the school to find out why we called.

  • Why is first hour longer than the other hours of the day? Time for Jag News, breakfast, and Social Emotional Learning. Each day has a different focus. It will be for social emotional learning, team building, extra help from teachers, reading time, or fun activities.

  • May I bring lunch for my child? Students may bring a sack lunch to school with them in the morning or eat a school lunch from student nutrition services. We are not able to accommodate lunches ordered or delivered to the building from local restaurants. We appreciate your understanding. If a parent brings a lunch from a local restaurant, the student must eat it in the office.

  • What about snacks and beverages? Students who bring snacks to school must bring them in a single serving package. Water bottles are encouraged as we have drinking fountains that fill the bottle easily. Pop and energy drinks should be left at home. No beverage, other than water, or snack is allowed to be consumed while walking in the hallways due to safety and cleanliness.

  • Especially for 6th grade parents and students - At the middle school level we love to acknowledge birthdays, however, please leave the treats at home. Any treats that come to school will be sent back home. Thank you for understanding.

Welcome to a new school year! We are honored to be able to work with you and your child this year. Please feel free to contact us with any questions that come up, or if you would like to come in. Enjoy these last days of summer break.

Looking forward to seeing you soon,

Brant Goetz
